Governing the intersection of technical data + business logic through code
Data Products and Data Mesh
Creating a schema-first ecosystem organized around domains
Active Metadata
Supercharging data governance practices with metadata change events
Hackathon teams can be between 1-3 people. We will choose 2 submissions for each Governance as Code theme to move on to the final judging round on Wednesday, May 18th.

We have assembled a host of experts across industry and academia who will participate in a half-day workshop on Governance as Code and share their ideas with the attendees during an interactive 90 minute session.
Director of Privacy Engineering, Architecture, and Analytics, Uber
Nishant Bhajaria is an executive leader and industry-expert in the privacy and security space and currently serves as the Head of Privacy Engineering and Governance at Uber. He plays the critical role connecting engineering, legal, and leadership to ensure data protection for both the user and the business. Prior to Uber, Nishant spearheaded compliance and privacy engineering programs at Google, Netflix and Nike.
Cloud First Chief Technologist, Accenture
Teresa Tung Leads incubation and scaling of breakthrough technologies in cloud. Specializes in bridging the "enterprise gap" taking innovation from startups, academia, digital natives and making it work at enterprise scale and with enterprise requirements. Ph.D. from UC Berkeley.
Professor, Univ. of Maryland
Amol Deshpande is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Maryland with a joint appointment in the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies (UMIACS). His research interests include collaborative data science platforms, provenance, uncertain data management, adaptive query processing, data streams, graph analytics, and sensor networks. He is also a Co-Founder and Chief Scientist at WireWheel, Inc., which is building a comprehensive platform to help companies comply with data privacy regulations like GDPR, CCPA, and others.
Jim Gray Professor, UC Berkeley
Joseph M. Hellerstein is the Jim Gray Professor of Computer Science at the University of California, Berkeley, whose work focuses on data-centric systems and the way they drive computing. Hellerstein is also the co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer of Trifacta, and has served on the advisory boards of a number of computing and Internet companies including Dell EMC, SurveyMonkey, and Greenplum.
Principal Scientist, data.world
Juan Sequeda is the Principal Scientist at data.world. He joined through the acquisition of Capsenta, a company he founded as a spin-off from his PhD research in Computer Science from The University of Texas at Austin. His goal is to reliably create knowledge from inscrutable data. His research and industry work has been on designing and building Knowledge Graph for enterprise data integration.
Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, Acryl Data
Prior to founding Acryl Data, Shirshanka was the overall architect for Big Data at LinkedIn from 2010 to 2020, and responsible for creating the metadata and data management strategy at the company. He founded the DataHub project and shaped its evolution to a metadata platform that powers productivity and governance use cases at LinkedIn. He is also a PMC and committer on the Apache Gobblin project which manages 100PB+ of data assets at rest at LinkedIn, and is deployed in production at other large companies like Verizon and PayPal.
Senior Staff Engineer, LinkedIn
Joshua Shinavier is a software developer and researcher with deep ties to knowledge graphs and graph databases. He co-founded what is now Apache TinkerPop and holds a PhD from RPI's Tetherless World Constellation, where he focused on combining knowledge graphs with augmented reality. Prior to joining LinkedIn as part of the Metadata team, Joshua led Uber’s Data Standardization initiative.
